On first seeing the X-ray of my knee Dr. Paul told me immediately that I would need to have a total knee replacement. He mentioned that injections, and other therapies would not work as unfortunately it was already severe, and though I would ultimately need to have the replacement done he would not push me into it. Fast forward 3 years and from the first revisit, to the day of surgery he made himself available to answer my many questions and worries. He explained all aspects of the surgery and aftercare, which put my mind at ease. I am now 2 weeks post surgery wishing I had taken the decision to do this earlier, I spent years in pain, and can now already walk pain free, the post surgery enhanced recovery of fast mobilization and in hospital physio, has sped up the healing process for me, the revisits post surgery and aftercare have been phenomenal. Would not hesitate to recommend him to other patients, he is knowledgeable, skilled and confident, while also maintaining a good sense of humour, humility and keeping his patient’s best interests in mind. 10 years ago whilst resident in USA I was recommended to have knee replacement surgery, which at the time I put off. Fast forward to present day and here in Dubai I realised that due to deteriorating mobility the time had come for TKR operation. After some research of consultant orthopaedic surgeons here in Dubai one Dr stood out for me – Dr. Paul McNamara of Clemenceau Medical Centre. The scheduled appointment/ consultation was very reassuring. His experience, professionalism and dedication was so apparent and the clarity of detail he explained about all stages of the surgical procedure and the speed of the recovery process which was so refreshing and appreciated. Three weeks ago today, I underwent my operation by Dr. Paul. Shortly after leaving the theatre and transferred to the recovery unit Dr. Paul checked on me and had me moving / bending the new knee – incredible. Later in the afternoon he visited me in the ward room and had already arranged for the physio to commence with various leg exercises and also encouraged me to get out of bed to “walk with the aid of a zimmer” in the room. Dr. Paul advised to change the zimmer to elbow crutches. The day after the operation and under the guidance of the physiotherapist I was “walking” around the ward with the aid of a pair of crutches and in the afternoon managed to ascend and descend stairs in the hospital (using a single crutch). Two nights stay in CMC hospital and I was discharged to home. I would like to thank all of the staff of CMC who were so attentive to me during my brief stay there. Subsequent follow up visits to the clinic have again shown the dedication of attention by Dr Paul. Three weeks after surgery and I am walking without the need for crutches (haven’t used them for a week actually). Thanks to the skill, knowledge and enthusiasm of Dr. Paul I am now focused on regaining a better quality of life and am looking forward to extended walks, swimming and cycling that I have been unable to do for the past few years. I had a hip replacement surgery just 10 days ago, which was done in 6 days after I have first appointment with dr. Paul. In my country I would wait 3 months just for the first appointment with the orthopedist and about 2 years for the surgery.The surgery was not a usual one, because of my DVT and cancer history. So I would also give all my credit to the whole surgery team including the anesthesiologist dr. Nauras Idriss.Now after 10 days I have no pains and I can walk with one crutch only. I am sure that my recovery will be fast and successful in the next weeks too.
